6. Photofestival Mannheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg
Germany’s largest curated photographic festival is taking place for the sixth time in the fall of 2015. A total of six museums and local art associations are involved in the presentation of the Photofestival, which are linked by means of an overriding thematic exhibition concept. Since its start in 2005, the festival has developed into a much-noticed European biennale that puts up contemporary photographic tendencies as well as pioneering artists from the history of photography for discussion in the context of exhibitions with accompanying events. Urs Stahel, the curator of the sixth edition of the Photofestival, is the founding director of the Fotomuseum Winterthur, which has developed over the past 20 years under his leadership into one of the most important institutions devoted to photography. The internationally active specialist for photography is furthermore co-founder of the Kunsthalle Zürich, guest professor at the University of Zurich, curator of MAST, the new centre for industrial culture in Bologna, in addition to his work as an exhibition curator and author of numerous publications.
